Why Us

Preservation and Promotion of the Samoan Language

At the heart of our preschool is a profound commitment to preserving and promoting the Samoan language. Our immersive curriculum ensures that every child gets ample opportunities to learn and use the language, thus fostering a deep-rooted connection to their heritage. The Samoan language, imbued with the values and wisdom of our ancestors, serves as a vital link to our past and a treasure for our future. At Sara Petesa A’oga Amata, we believe in empowering our children with the knowledge and love for their native language, preparing them to be proud bearers of the Samoan culture in the global community.

Exceptional Parent-Teacher Communication

Our preschool takes pride in fostering strong parent-teacher partnerships. Through regular meetings, an open-door policy, digital updates, and our online communication portal, we ensure parents are continuously involved and updated about their child’s progress and activities.

Engaging and Fun Activities

We provide a wide range of fun and educational activities designed to promote the Samoan language and culture while catering to varied learning styles. Our activities stimulate creativity, curiosity, and cognitive development while making learning enjoyable and memorable.

Comprehensive Safety Measures

Our Aoga Amata places utmost importance on the safety of our children. We implement strict safety rules, ensuring our facility and playground are safe. Our location, safely distanced from the road, further enhances the secure environment for our children. Staff members are trained in first aid and emergency procedures, ensuring the well-being of your child at all times.

Faith-Based Education

At Sara Petesa A’oga Amata, we operate under the guidance and values of the Otara Samoan Assembly of God Church. Our curriculum incorporates Christian principles, fostering an environment where children can grow in their faith while receiving a high-quality education. Our approach to early childhood education is imbued with a spiritual ethos, instilling values of respect, love, unity, and faith in our children. This unique blend of spiritual and educational instruction sets us apart, providing a comprehensive learning experience that nurtures the whole child — mind, body, and spirit.

Sara Petesa A’oga Amata, a Samoan language immersion preschool, operates under the auspices of the Otara Samoan Assembly of God Church. Our A’oga serves both the church and the broader community, catering specifically to children of Samoan heritage.

Our Story

Sara Petesa A’oga Amata‘s journey began in 1988, when Pastor Seleni Taoai of the Otara Samoan Assembly of God Church became a grandfather. The birth of his eldest grandson on March 19th, 1988, inspired him to establish a preschool that emphasised the importance of the Samoan language and Christian values. The preschool initially operated within the church building, a guest house, and a garage.

On June 29th of the same year, a dedicated group of mothers from the church initiated the preschool, then known as ‘Petesa Aoga Amata’. Recognising the need for a conducive learning environment, we applied for an Early Childhood Education (ECE) license and a new building in 1999. On February 1st, 2000, we became the first Samoan Assembly of God Church to receive an ECE license from the Ministry of Education, marking the inauguration of our new building.

In 2013, we celebrated our 25th anniversary and chose to rename our preschool “Sara Petesa Aoga Amata” to honour the late Sarai Aiono Taoai. The following year, the council approved a plan for an additional building, which was completed in 2015 and is now an integral part of our campus.

In April 2019, we lost our founder, Rev: Seleni Taoai. His vision and dedication were instrumental in shaping Sara Petesa into the institution it is today, and his legacy continues to inspire us. In May 2019, Rev: Terry Saipani took over as CEO, leading with a focus on strengthening our educational programs and enhancing our community connections.

October 2020 marked the end of an era when Penny Aiga, our centre manager who dedicated 20 years of service, resigned. Her tireless work left an indelible mark on our history. Finally, in November 2020, Aniva Saipani became our new Centre Manager, whose dynamic leadership and commitment to our mission continue to propel our centre forward.

With each new chapter, we honour our past while looking forward to a future filled with possibilities for growth and learning. We remain committed to providing a nurturing and culturally-rich learning environment where every child can flourish.
